Taking your pets to EU countries

Europe, a continent steeped in history, culture, and stunning diversity. Spanning from the icy reaches of the Arctic Circle to the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean, Europe is a tapestry of nations, languages, and traditions.

Since leaving the EU the rules and regulations have changed when taking your pets to European Countries. The good news is that the process is simple and with an Animal Health Certificate you can travel freely to and around Europe - and return again within four months without the need for any further documentation.

Whether you are going away for a quick trip or emigrating permanently, we can advise on all aspects of your pet travel plans and requirements.

General Information, Entry Procedure and Requirements

To travel to Europe, you must have your pet microchipped and then vaccinated against Rabies. If this is the first Rabies vaccination then you must wait 21 days from the day of vaccination before being able to travel.

Your vet should will need to complete an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) within ten days of departure. This certificate contains crucial information about your travel and your pet's vaccination. Most vets offer this service and are familiar with the requirements. We recommend completing this no less than 72 hours prior to departure, as we need to provide the documents to the airline for approval before travel.

If your pet is not travelling within five days on either side of you, it's considered a commercial export and will require an Export Health Certificate (EHC).

The Animal Health Certificate allows you to return to the UK within four months and travel around Europe freely. The rules for returning are slightly different when leaving the UK on an EHC, but we can advise on what is best for you in each scenario.

We ship pets all around Europe and can advise on the best airline and route. We frequently use British Airways, TUI, TAP, Iberia and Air France and Lufthansa, to popular destinations such as Malaga, the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura, Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, and Paphos - but can organise travel to almost any destination!
